Background
We Are Not Worthy sets the Prayer of Humble Access, one of the most distinctive and enduring texts of the Anglican Communion. The prayer was introduced into the English liturgy in the 1549 Book of Common Prayer, associated with Archbishop Thomas Cranmer.
Liturgical use
The Prayer of Humble Access is traditionally associated with the Holy Communion / Eucharist, immediately before receiving Communion.
The setting could therefore be used within a Eucharistic service, particularly during Communion, or performed as a standalone anthem or concert work.
